Proven interventions are available to prevent or control illness and mortality from common diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, AIDS, pneumonia, and diarrhea. We also have the knowledge to prevent and treat conditions such as malnutrition, deficiencies of vitamins and other micronutrients, and complications of childbirth, which disproportionately affect pregnant women, newborns, children under the age of five, and the poor. The challenge today is not the science; it is the effective delivery of these proven interventions. MSH works to expand access to services to reach those in need in a timely manner and at a scale to attain public health impact. Coverage and quality of care are both critical to achieving this impact.

To support the delivery of lifesaving public health services, MSH’s Center for Health Services (CHS) works with ministries of health, local governments, the private sector, and nongovernmental and civil society organizations to develop systems and build management capacity. We address geographic and financial barriers to care using innovative approaches such as community financing, community case management, public-private collaborations, and performance-based contracting for services.
