The Latin American and Caribbean region is a varied and complex area. Despite progress in key health indicators during the 1990s, there are significant differences in health status between countries in the region. Availability of high-quality services go hand-in-hand with a healthier population in the more-developed Central American country of Costa Rica, while more rampant poverty and difficulty accessing quality health services result in ill health in the Andean country of Bolivia. In the Caribbean and in parts of Central America, HIV & AIDS is a serious problem.

Management Sciences for Health (MSH) works in the Latin America and Caribbean region through a variety of programs that range from strengthening management skills and systems within the public and private health sectors to supporting health facilities to improve quality and access to health services for women, men, and children, including immunization, family planning, and HIV & AIDS prevention and care.
