Sustaining Indicators When a country achieves certain reproductive health indicators, it is no longer eligible to receive USAID Population and Reproductive Health funding. However, they, like many countries, still face great challenges in the area of reproductive health and family planning, such as: insufficient financial support, lack of implementing capacity, frequent changes in politics and programs, lack of sufficiently trained human resources, and difficulties convincing decision-makers of the importance of reproductive health programs. USAID understands that health professionals in those countries still need the opportunity to exchange information, strategies, and best practices with each other as well as receive information from other sources that may be valuable to them.
What Does the Network Do?
The Network hosts virtual conferences featuring topical subjects such as Safe Motherhood and Re-positioning Family Planning and Reproductive Health on the global public health agenda. Professionals from public sector organizations, NGOs, PVOs, CAs, WHO, UNFPA, IPPF, and other organizations participate.
Many of the activities on the Network's multilingual site also target reproductive health professionals from other countries who can learn from the "graduated countries" and also offer their ideas and best practices.
Network Description
The Global Exchange Network for Reproductive Health is an initiative to promote the exchange of information and best practices among countries which have "graduated" from USAID population assistance. It enables members to contribute and access information from the global community. The network's membership, supported by a website, includes health professionals at the local, regional, and global level. Members currently hail from Morocco, Turkey, Colombia, Mexico, and Ecuador.
