The local AMR Advocacy Working Group formed to support the process organized the Antimicrobial Resistance Stakeholders "Call for Action" Meeting on November 12, 2004, in Lusaka. Inaugurated by the honorable Minister of Health of the Government of the Republic of Zambia, the meeting was attended by 70 stakeholders representing:
- The government
- Academia
- Service providers including medical and veterinary doctors, pharmacists, and nurses
- Professional associations
- Consumers
- Journalists
- Industry
- The private sector
- Cooperating partners
The meeting included several AMR-related presentations, discussions, group work and reporting, and a "Call for Action" to support AMR containment efforts in Zambia.
The recently developed Standard Treatment Guidelines 2004 for Zambia was also officially launched during the meeting. Zambian newspapers widely covered news of the meeting and the issue of drug resistance.
