The new Tuberculosis Control Assistance Program (TB CAP), funded by USAID, will both continue and expand on the role of USAID's first major collaborative TB project, the Tuberculosis Coalition for Technical Assistance (TBCTA).

RPM Plus has contributed to assessments by the USAID Tuberculosis Coalition for Technical Assistance (TBCTA) in the Dominican Republic (DR), Haiti, and seven Europe and Eurasia (E&E) countries: Estonia, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Russia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

Weaknesses in the drug supply system in these countries were identified, and interventions to address these weaknesses were proposed.

Results of the E&E surveys were presented to over 100 participants from 12 states of the former Soviet Union (FSU) attending a USAID regional meeting in Kyrgyzstan in January 2003. Discussions during this meeting are expected to result in streamlining national TB programs and in wider collaboration among the participant states.

As TB CAP activities get underway, RPM Plus will again provide technical assistance to national TB programs, alongside other TB CAP partners. Activities will revolve around assessing the current situation, building capacity in TB procurement and supply, and providing assistance with monitoring mechanisms for all aspects of TB pharmaceutical management.
