Collaborating Institutions

RPM Plus also seeks to work with local institutions, such as universities, research organizations, and training centers, to increase capacities to provide regional technical assistance. These collaborative efforts help establish sustainable country-level improvements in supply systems performance.

These institutions may be involved in conducting assessments, helping to identify the causes of problems with availability and use of commodities, and recommending interventions or policy options for positive change.

Makerere University

RPM Plus is working with the World Health Organization and African institutions of higher education in developing drug management tools and courses for training pharmacists, nurses, and physicians.

A course developed in collaboration with the Regional Centre for Quality of Health Care, housed at Makerere University in Uganda, focuses on drug management and rational drug use. As it has evolved, the training has grown to include the drug management facets of current health care problems, including HIV/AIDS and difficulties in providing for reproductive health.

Recognizing the need for regular information sharing among health care professionals, RPM Plus also works with Makerere University to disseminate current best practices in drug management and to introduce new training tools and approaches through planned regional meetings and workshops.
